What you’ll do

As a Data Scientist in the Quant Forecasting Team (Forecast Product Development), you will play a pivotal role in researching and developing forecasting products that meet the needs of our stakeholders, e.g. intraday traders, day-ahead traders. Our forecasting products include proprietary power production forecasting models for wind and solar energy, as well as other tools designed to enhance forecast accuracy and provide deeper insights. Your primary focus will be on analyzing the impact of various weather sources on our portfolio, as well as researching, improving, and building new forecasting products.

You will be in constant contact with stakeholders, updating forecasting products based on portfolio demands, and improving products in terms of reliability, scalability, accuracy, and stakeholder insights. Collaboration with teams such as IT and Operations is essential. Our team aims to provide precise, reliable, and actionable insights that drive our trading strategies and decisions. We believe that by embracing data, analytics, business insights, and AI, we can transform the future of energy trading.

We are searching for a team player who is critical but pragmatic and contributes to a psychologically safe environment. Is this about you?

  • Strong background in meteorology and data science.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Python and relevant data science libraries.
  • Enthusiastic about your expertise, eager to develop further in your field and to share your knowledge in our team.
  • Commercial drive with the ability to translate this into priorities and action plans.
  • Excellent communication skills, creative mindset and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with other departments.
  • Proactive team player with strong active listening skills.
  • Experience in a dynamic environment where priorities change based on market conditions or opportunities.
  • Knowledge and experience related (or similar) to software engineering or ML engineering is a plus.
    • Relevant concepts include: MLOps, CI/CD, `software` testing
    • Relevant technologies include: Databricks, Airflow, Snowflake, Docker, Azure Cloud
  • Knowledge and experience of energy markets is a plus.

You’ll be responsible for

  • Conduct research on the impact of different weather sources on our portfolio, with an affinity for weather data such as NWP or new AI sources for short-term trading.
  • Develop and improve forecasting products based on customer requirements.
  • Act as a point of contact and sparring partner within our operations.
  • Provide proactive feedback on how to improve our short-term domain with actionable insights and close cooperation with your team members.
  • Identify, prioritize, and initiate improvements.
  • Maintain a proactive mindset to minimize imbalance and P&L risk.

The Quant Forecasting Team (Forecast Product Development) is part of the Short Term Trade Desk  of Eneco Energy Trade (EET). What we have to offer

Gross annual salary between €85.000 and €125.000

Including FlexBudget, 8% holiday allowance, and depending on your role a bonus or collective profit sharing.
